 The programs will be held in the Assembly Room of Timbercrest Senior Living Community, 2201 East Street, at 6:40 p.m.  There is no cost for the program, which is free to the public.  All are welcome.  While many attend only the program, the public is also invited to come to the Assembly Room at 6 p.m. for a meal prior to the presentation.  For those who wish to attend the dinner, reservations must be made no later than noon on Friday before the program.  The cost of the meal is $8.50.  Reservations may be made by calling Evelyn at 260-982-6777, Mary at 260-982-1813, or the Center for History at 260-982-0672.


North Manchester Historical Society -- 2013 Programs

Our monthly meetings begin with an evening meal at 6 p.m. If you want meal reservations, please contact Mary Chrastil, marygrace@hoosierlink.net by Friday noon before the Monday meeting. Cost of the meal is $8.50 per person. There is free admission for the program generally starting at 6:40 p.m. in the Timbercrest Assembly Room. Free-will donations are encouraged to defray program expenses. The public is invited to join us!

February 13, 2012 The Siege of Fort Wayne with Norm Gable and Sean O'Brien of Historic Fort Wayne The Siege of Fort Wayne was a critical event for the fledgling United States during the War of 1812.
March 12, 2012 Restoring the historic NM Opera Curtain with Jennifer Hein, Conservator Conservator Jennifer Hein will report on her progress, techniques and problems in restoring the rare NMHS opera curtain.
April 9, 2012 The importance of Opera Houses in Small Towns with Manchester College professor Katherine Tinsley Opera houses were important community centers in small towns.  This program is part of the celebration surrounding the restoration of NMHS opera curtain.
May 14, 2012 "West with a Harvey Girl" with Linda Kuester, who brings to life the experiences of her mother, who worked for the Fred Harvey restaurants.  Linda Kuester brings to life the experiences of her mother, who worked for the Fred Harvey series of restaurants in the Southwest..
June 11, 2012 The National Register of Area Historic Places Buildings with Paul Diebold Paul Diebold will speak on properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
July 9, 2012 Local Cemeteries with Ferne Baldwin. History of various local cemeteries and the interesting people buried there.
August 13, 2012 The history of the Peabody Family and Businesses with Nancy Reed, Director of the NM Center for History. Many people do not know the history of this family, which has been very important to the history of North Manchester
September 10, 2012 Early Windmill Development in North Central Indiana with a representative from the Kendallville Windmill Museum. Presenter from the Kendallville Windmill Museum will talk about early windmills in North Central Indiana, including the Baker, Rex and Rochester Windmills made near NM.
October 8, 2012 Hollywood Designer with John Corso from Wabash will tell about his work in the movies. John will talk about his work, interesting projects in movies, and perhaps growing up in Wabash and how he got to Hollywood.
November 12, 2012 The History of the Stockdale Mill.  Speaker to be determined. Speaker has not been identified.  Presentation should cover the recent restoration of the mill.
December 10, 2012 Nostalgic Views of Christmas through Literature with Richard Livingston. Richard Livingston will present readings from "A Child's Christmas in Wales" by Dylan Thomas and other writings by Truman Capote and Robert Frost.
