FROGGY SCHOOL (DISTRICT 5)

It is thought this school was organized in the 1840s. There has been some mix-up on this school, as it has been taken for the one that was called "Twin Lake School." Which was located at least one and one half miles north of this one. This may not have been on the corner as most schools were at first. But in 1849, a frame house was constructed on the southeast corner of the Froggy farm. The older one had been moved to John Ohms farm where it was used for a barn.

As to just how long the frame building stood is not known. But in 1881, the people of this district felt they needed a new house. So a brick one was built on the southeast corner of the Ferree farm. This school was also known as the "Oakland." The first teacher in the brick schoolhouse was Phronia (Lukens) Branegan.

Before this time it is found that a John Smith and J.Q. Shipley had taught in the old frame building.

The brick building was used until 1912-1913 as the last year. For during the time the old Disko school was closed in Disko and before the new one was ready, all the students had to go to Froggy. This made a real house full as this house was not nearly as large as the Disko building.
