The North Manchester Historical Society/Shepherd’s Center travel group recently took a day trip to the Purdue Christmas Show.  Our group of thirty-six left North Manchester the morning of Dec 2nd with a stop in Wabash to pick up an additional five for a total of forty-one. Almost one-half of the group had never attended the Christmas show. The program features over 300 students in a show that was over two hours long.  The students do not receive any academic credit for their participation in the Purdue Music Organization; Purdue does not have a School of Music.   They performed a wide variety of Christmas songs and our group was all very complementary of the performance.  I thought the students playing the bells did a fantastic job in their part of the show.

After the show we traveled to Celebrations Event Center in Kokomo for a nice buffet dinner.  After dinner we traveled back to Wabash to drop off our friends.  We headed for N. Manchester turning onto 200 North so that we could view the Christmas lights at the farm of Jack Vrooman for a great end to our day.

Looking ahead to 2018 we will be traveling to Wisconsin on June 20th, returning on June 24th.  We will spend two nights in Racine, WI and two nights in Door County on Lake Michigan.  The trip will have a little something for everyone.   Some of the things we will be seeing are: dinner theater to see 42nd Street, tour the Harley Davidson Museum, tour Racine and Milwaukee with emphasis on buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright, ferry ride to Washington Island with a ride on the Cherry Train, Wisconsin fish boil, free time in Door county for shopping etc. and a cruise along the shore of Lake Michigan.  For more information call 260 982-8734.
