Also, groceries, druggists, hardware stores, clothing and shoe dealers, milliners, dress makers, and other "merchants" often carried dry goods. The 1880 census for North Manchester included:

In the 1870 census for Chester Township (including North Manchester), the following individuals below were identified as "merchant". We do know that Shively, Lawrence, Singer and possibly others carried dry goods. Unlike the 1880 census, there was no distinct category for "dry goods merchant" in the 1870 census.
